The Midnight Parrotfish
This Midnight Parrotfish is scraping and biting off pieces of coral. The parrotfish uses
his "beak" to scrape algae and polyps from coral and rocks. They take in large amounts of coral and grind it up in their gullets to extract the polyps and algae. They excrete the chalky residue, which makes parrotfish one of the major sources of sand in tropical waters.
